Oval Plate by Fujii Seisakusho
Grey Oval Plate made using urushi, washi paper, linen cloth and Kanshitsu.
Kanshitsu is a technique that does not use wood for the main body, but creates a shape by harding washi papers and linen clothes with lacquer. It’s very thin and light, and can be washed with water just like lacquerware.
11.3cm to 15cm wide 0.5cm high
Fujii Seisakusho is run by Kenichi and Minako. Kenichi is in charge of the design and woodwork, and Minako is in charge of the urushi lacquering. They aim to create works that make the most of the materials wood and urushi. The shapes of their pieces are very simple, but pay attention to detail to create beautiful shapes that fit comfortably in the hand.
After use, please wash with soft sponges. If you want to use cleanser, please use neutral dish detergent. To keep lacquerwares in good condition, we recommend you to wipe the water drops off with dry cloth after washing. Avoid soaking it in water, or using it in the microwave, dishwasher, or refrigerator. Natural lacquer is easily affected by ultraviolet rays and may discolour, so please use it indoors. You can put food and sweets on it and use it like any other plate.
All proceeds from the shop go towards supporting our free After School Club and Summer School programmes for state school students.
